-OMNIMeal 1-
Concept:
To help you enter and store recipes, plan meals, plan shopping trips
and prepare meals in the easiest fashion possible.
Getting Started:
The following files MUST be on the same disk or sub directory:
OMNIMEAL.EXE
NEWUSER.DAT
OMNISHOP.DAT
PRINT.SET
COLOUR.SET
HELP.PLS
HELP.DBT
Type OMNIMEAL start.
QEMM.SYS And Other Extended Memory Managers:
Occaisionally a problem will be incurred by a person using QEMM.SYS
or other extended memory manager. This has to do with the way that the SYS
file manages memory vs the way that the program wants to use the extended
memory (The program will attempt to use extended memory automatically, if
it is available).
On the distribution disk there is a program called UNIEMM.COM (This can be
renamed to any legal file name EXCEPT the name of the EXE program). If you
attempt to run the program and get a DOS ERROR or RUN ERROR message at the
top of the screen, use the UNIEMM utility to start the program. It
will tell the program you are using an extended memory that has this
anomoly and command the program to remain in low memory instead of
switching to extended memory. After passing these instructions to the
program, the program will start with no other commands needing to be
entered.
First Time Users:
When you first start the program, the computer will bring up the Default
SetUp screen first. Just enter the info requested. When you name the Disk
Drive, the program will automatically copy the data files to that drive for
you ! So Have A Disk In The Drive And Ready ! The program will not do any
further copying on its own. In order to create new data disks simply copy
the files for the name you selected with the DAT and NTX extension onto
your new data disk.
-OMNIMeal 2-
Mouse Users:
YOU must activate the mouse prior to the start of the program. Two Button
Users: The Left Button serves as the return/enter key, The Right Button is
the ESC key. Three Button Users: Same as two button Users, and the middle
button is the F1 key.
Colours:
Color Letter
------------------
Black N
Blue B
Green G
Cyan BG
Red R
Magenta RB
Brown GR
White W
------------------
File Name:
Any 8 character name , except TEMP, can be used. If the name is already
used the program will ask you to select a new name.
Data Drive:
The drive where you will keep your data disk. ex A,B,C,D etc.
Right Justify:
This refers to right justification of the Preperation Instructions during
the WordWrap process. The program will add additional blank spaces between
words to make the lines come out even on both sides (Like this document).
If you chose to leave it off (N) the lines will not have any blank spaces
added. See the examples for WordWrap below.
The System:
Is designed using KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) so not much information is
needed to get started. Here are a few notes to help you use the system:
Universals:
The ESC key will take you back one menu (Mouse Users use Right Button).
-OMNIMeal 3-
The box in the upper right hand corner of the screen will contain
information on how to move around, and data entry tips.
The last line of the screen will tell you what the highlighted option does.
All menu entries can be selected with the light bar, or by pressing the
first letter of the option (Mouse Users when highlited the Left Button will
activate the option).
The F10 key will bring up Help for a particular item, if no Help is
availble for that item, it will allow you to enter the help index. From
the index you may select any of the topics of help available. The Help
file was not written by the same person who wrote this manual, therefore it
might help better explain something to you than this manual does and vice
versa.
By hitting the F1 key you can convert any fraction to a decimal, just enter
the decimal you want to convert and the program will provide you with the
decimal.
Quantities:
All Quantities must be decimal in format. This is required for the system
to operate, computers just don't understand fractions, for example it would
see 1/2 as .50, but it would see 1 1/2 as 5.50 (11/2). Use the Quik
Decimal function to help with conversions.
Volume:
When dealing with volumes you have to be sure that you are uniform. If you
use TBL for Tablespoon always use that abbreviation. Here are some
suggestions for volumes (These were used in the sample recipes):
Pnc = Pinch Ea = Each (as in 1 each egg)
Dsh = Dash Can = Can
Oz = Ounce Slc = Slice
Qts = Quarts Cup = Cup
Lb = Pound Tsp = Teaspoon
Tbl = Tablespoon Bnc = Bunch
Doz = Dozen Pt = Pint
WordWrap:
This feature is an option during Add and Change operations while working on
Preperation Instructions. What it will do is allow you to type in the
Preperation without paying attention to carriage returns, then when you hit
-OMNIMeal 4-
the PageUp key it will re format the text for you (and Right Justify if you
have it turned on. Here is an example:
You Enter:
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl. Preheat ov
en to 360 while greasing the 8X12 pan. Spread mixture over t
he entire bottom of the pan evenly and bake for 14 hours maki
ng sure that it does not burn. Remove from oven and cool for
two hours prior to serving. Great for parites!
WordWrap:
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl. Preheat
oven to 360 while greasing the 8X12 pan. Spread mixture over
the entire bottom of the pan evenly and bake for 14 hours
making sure that it does not burn. Remove from oven and cool
for two hours prior to serving. Great for parites!
WordWrap & Right Justify:
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl. Preheat
oven to 360 while greasing the 8X12 pan. Spread mixture over
the entire bottom of the pan evenly and bake for 14 hours
making sure that it does not burn. Remove from oven and cool
for two hours prior to serving. Great for parites!
It enables you to type as fast as you want with no cares as to where the
carriage returns should be.
******WARNING******
When WordWrapping a Recipe that has previously been Wrapped with Right
Justify ON you might have problems. The program does not understand
grammar and might try to wrap things that do not need to be.
Example(From Above)
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl.
Preheatoven to 360 while greasing the 8X12 pan. Spread
mixture overthe entire bottom of the pan evenly and bake
for 14 hoursmaking sure that it does not burn. Remove from
oven and coolfor two hours prior to serving. Great for
parites!
If this happens, just use the INS and DEL keys to fix it.
-OMNIMeal 5-
Change And Erase:
When you select either of these options the screen will display up to 32
recipe names. Move the light bar to the one you want to Update or Delete
and press the enter key. The ESC key will take you back to the Main Menu
and the PageDown key will bring up the next 32 recipes. When the program
reaches the bottom of your file it will start again.
You also have the option of looking for a recipe (This will always be
the last option displayed, so use the end key to get to the bottom and
return to select).
Close 'Nuf:
In the Change, Erase, OMNIFind! and Criteria. When you enter any of the
data fields you do not have to enter the entire thing. For example when
entering a recipe you wish to deal with you do not have to enter the full
name, only the first few words, or even letters. In Update this will allow
you to view all the records that are Close 'Nuf to what you entered.
EXAMPLE: Entering "Rum" will bring up "Rum Cake", "Rum Tody" ,"Rummage Sale
Mix" and "Rummy Snack"
OMNIFind!:
Can help you find all of the Recipes in the data file that have a
particular Recipe as well as Type, Note, or Code. Using "Close 'Nuf" you
can Find! any record easily, ie enter as much information as you remember
and it will search based on your input, even if it is only one letter.
NOTE: Page Up on these data display screens will take you back to the
previous record, page down to the next record and Home to the OMNIFind!
menu; use the Arrow Down key to see the second page of a particular recipe.
KomboZ:
Selecting this entry on the Criteria or Find! screen will let you combine
up to four Criteria. For example you want a listing of all Recipes that
are Type Breakfast and from Shubert. Select the Type entry from the Comboz
screen, then type in Breakfast next select the From entry, when you do that
you will have a choice of making the statement And or Or. (Chose And in
this example) then you can enter the Shubert. The program will find all
records meeting that Criteria and take you to the Forms menu or Found!
screen. (If you had selected Or in the above example you would have gotten
all records for Type Breakfast or from Shubert. {even those not Type
Breakfast.})
A more complex example would be Code A or Code B and From S and Type
Breakfast. You would get all Codes A or B from anyone starting with "S"
and type breakfast.)
-OMNIMeal 6-
MultipleXer:
You can increase or decrease the number of people fed by a recipe by
entering the number desired when requested for the MulitpleXer.
MultipleXer will change the ingredients but WILL NOT change the cooking
times, so be careful the first time you prepare a MultipleXed recipe.
Labels&Listings:
You have a choice of working with All addresses or selecting a Criteria.
Listing: A list of Recipe, Type, and Note.
Catalog: Complete preperation instruction, perfect for a 3 ring binder!
2 Side 3X5 Cards: Preperation instructions printed on the back of the card.
1 Side 3X5 Cards: 2 cards for each recipe.
**ALL CARDS ARE STANDARD 3X5 PIN FED STOCK.**
Kustom: Let's you pick pick out the contents of the listing.
Utitlities:
Title/Code/Prep:
Puts File In Recipe Title, Code or Prep Time Order For Printouts.
From/Notes/Type:
Puts File In From, Note or Type Order For Printouts.
Build For Speed:
Should be run occasionally to keep the files in sequential order for
optimal speed
Ghost Buster:
This feature should be run if you get blank records in your data file, by
accident.
Default SetUp:
See Above (Getting Started)
-OMNIMeal 7-
Creating New Data Files:
Choose the Default SetUp from the Utilities Menu. To create a new data
disk, just blank out the data drive information on the Set Defaults screen,
then hit PageDown. The Set Defaults menu will appear again with 'Z' as the
Data Drive, change this to the location desired. WARNING if you tell the
program to create a new data file with the same name and location as an
existing file the program will overwritet the old file.
Printer SetUp:
This allows you to customize the printer codes used by the program. These
codes can be found in your printer manual. The codes that the program has
when originally distributed are for the Epson FX100. You will need to
know the code for 10 cpi (Pica), 12 CPI (Elite), Enlarged, Condensed
(17CPI) and Double High/Wide. If your printer cannot handle double
high/wide DON'T PANIC, just leave it blank; the program will use Enlarged
for that entry. You do not have to enter the ESC part of the code, the
program will add that automatically. You can enter the letter ESC code or
the number it does not matter: ie ESC code 119 can be entered as "119" or
"w". (Do not enter any " "s!)
The codes are used as follows:
10 CPI Reports
12 CPI Titles On Cards
Enlarged Report Titles
Dbl High/Wide Not Used Yet
Condensed 3 X 5 cards
Shell To DOS:
You can exit temporarily to DOS by using that option on the Utilities
Menu. The file COMMAND.COM must be on the same disk as the other programs
and in the root directory.
Problems:
If you encounter any problems with the program WRITE! Unicorn believes in
supporting its programs and has been doing so since the first one was
released in 1984.
